Salah satu definisi psikologi olahraga “studi psikologi tentang tingkah laku manusia dalam konteks (setting) olahraga” (Horn, 2008 : IX). “……… tingkah laku manusia dalam konteks olahraga” ini bermakna bahwa ruang lingkup psikologi olahraga sangatlah luas. Tingkah laku manusia dimaksud bisa dalam konteks olahraga kompetitif, olahraga rekreatif, olahraga perorangan, olahraga beregu yang masing – masing jenis olahraga ini menuntut persyaratan mental tertentu dari atlet, termasuk pembinaan dan pengembangannya oleh instruktur olahraga dan pelatih (coach). Apa faktor mental yang memengaruhi tingkah laku manusia dalam konteks olahraga, khususnya atlet yang memilih olahraga prestasi atau olahraga kompetitif ? Pertama, pendekatan dalam pembinaan dan pengembangan performa atlet hendaknya memanfaatkan ilmu olahraga (sport science), seperti kedokteran olahraga, ilmu gizi, antropometri, sosiologi dan psikologi olahraga. Implikasinya bagi pembinaan olahraga adalah pentingnya sinergitas antara para pakar terkait. Selanjutnya, mengingat jalan panjang yang harus ditempuh untuk “mencetak” atlet dengan penampilan puncak (peak performance), maka pembinaan atlet harus dilakukan sejak usia dini. Permasalahannya, bagaimana agar atlet usia dini ini tetap bertahan atau tidak berhenti berolahraga (sport dropout). Untuk menjawab persoalan ini, maka olahraga harus merupakan aktivitas yang menyenangkan secara khusus bagi atlet pemula Csikszenmihalyi (1975) menawarkan flow model (keseimbangan antara “tantangan” dan “kompetensi”). Dalam perjalanan panjang atlet untuk meraih penampilan puncak atau menjadi yang terbaik, faktor kepribadian berperan besar. Sebab, kepribadian erat hubungannya dengan performa, bahkan dianggap sebagai prediktor keberhasilan atlet. Maka pengetahuan mengenai kepribadian dan teori kepribadian dalam kaitan pembinaan atlet mutlak harus dikuasai oleh coach dan psikolog olahraga. Dalam hubungan ini, penulis menyajikan beberapa teori kepribadian (teori psikodinamika, pembelajaran sosial, dan humanistik). Perjalanan meraih penampilan puncak seorang atlet tidak lepas dari cedera; dapat dikatakan tidak ada atlet yang bebas dari cedera yang dampaknya bukan hanya terhadap aspek fisik atlet, melainkan berdampak kuat terhadap aspek mental (stres, kecemasan, depresi, dan pikiran sport dropout). Kondisi mental negatif ini sangat berpengaruh terhadap proses pemulihan cedera atau upaya rehabilitasi. Selain membahas pembinaan atlet untuk meraih penampilan puncak, penulis juga mengemukakan bahwa olahraga bukan semata-mata masalah “menang – kalah”, melainkan merupakan wahana atau kendaraan pendidikan membangun karakter. Penyajian lain dari penulis adalah masalah pengendalian emosi, aplikasi psikologi positif, dan momen kritis dalam olahraga, serta aspek mental olahraga beregu. Mengingat peran psikologi olahraga dalam pendampingan pelatih dan atlet, maka dari psikolog olahraga dituntut profesionalisme yang mumpuni. Akhirnya, dibicarakan sumbangan psikologi olahraga terhadap kesejahteraan baik bagi atlet maupun psikolog olahraga, yakni berkenaan dengan kebahagiaan, aktualisasi – diri, makna hidup, dan panggilan. Awalnya saya juga berpikir demikian karena dulu cuma lihatnya dari kulit luar aja. Eh, setelah dijalani sendiri, ternyata... Konya merupakan satu di antara kota tertua di Turki selain Istanbul dan Bursa (yang pernah tecatat sebagai ibu kota) di masa Kekaisaran Ustmani. Jika kalian penasaran dengan penampakan Konya, cobalah untuk membayangkan 'Kota Tua'-nya Jakarta atau 'Braga'-nya Bandung. Dalam adat pernikahan Turki, terdapat satu budaya unik yang menjadi kunci awal diterima atau ditolaknya lamaran nikah seseorang. Apa itu? Ya, kopi asin! *** Saat kali pertama ide menulis buku SST ini muncul, mimpi kami adalah membuat sebuah buku tentang Turki yang ketika orang membacanya, mereka bisa tahu atau membayangkan gambaran lengkap tentang seperti apa negara ini. Bagaimana orang-orangnya, sikap dan perangainya terhadap orang asing, samakah kebiasaan harian mereka dengan kita di Indonesia, ada objek wisata apa di Turki dan apa saja konsep sejarah yang melatarbelakanginya, perpaduan budaya Asia dan Eropa di Turki itu seperti apa, anekdot kebap Turki, dan sebagainya. Akhirnya, sampailah pada satu kesimpulan: kayaknya asyik deh kalau ada buku yang bisa mencakup semua informasi ini! Maka, lahirlah Serba Serbi Turki (SST).
